Weekend Watch: Scream [1996 Horror/Mystery]

It’s officially time to kick off spooky season, and what better way to start than with Scream—obviously the best scary movie ever. Wes Craven’s 1996 classic changed the horror game, blending slasher thrills with self-aware humor that makes it just as fun as it is terrifying. If you’ve ever found yourself yelling at characters on screen for running upstairs instead of out the door, Scream is the movie that gets it.

The film’s iconic opening with Drew Barrymore sets the tone, and from there, it’s a ride full of twists, clever nods to horror tropes, and a killer whodunit. Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott is the ultimate final girl, and the rest of the cast—Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Matthew Lillard—bring the perfect mix of tension and levity. Plus, Ghostface has become one of the most recognizable villains in horror history.

Scream is the kind of movie that’s just as enjoyable on your first watch as it is on your tenth. It knows how to poke fun at the genre while still delivering the scares, and honestly, can you even call it spooky season without watching Scream?

Now that we’ve kicked off October, we can finally start sharing our favorite spooky season movies. So... what's your favorite scary movie? 🎃
